Privacy policy
Who we are
MortgageAdviceUK (mortgageadviceuk.com) is responsible for the personal information described in this policy. We are an independent marketing website which acts solely as an introducer to companies who provide mortgage advice. You can contact us at info@mortgageadviceuk.com.
What we collect
When you ask to speak to an adviser
When you complete an enquiry form we collect your name, email address, phone number, any property value, deposit or outstanding mortgage amount you choose to give, and your message. We also record the page of our site you first arrived on, so we can see which pages lead to enquiries.
When you visit the site
We count visits using our own privacy-friendly analytics. It records the page you viewed, the website that sent you, whether you used a mobile or a desktop device, and your approximate location (country, region and city), which is worked out from your IP address at the moment of your visit. We do not store your IP address and we do not use cookies for this. An anonymous code that changes every day lets us count how many different people visited in a day. It cannot be used to identify you or to follow you from one day to the next. We do not count visitors who have switched on Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.
Google Analytics (only with your consent)
If you accept analytics cookies, we also use Google Analytics, which collects information such as the pages you visit, how you arrived, your device and browser, and an approximate location, using cookies. Google processes this information for us. If you do not accept, Google Analytics is not loaded. You can withdraw consent at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer. See our cookie policy.
Security
To protect the site from abuse, your IP address is held briefly in memory to limit how often a form can be submitted. Our web server also keeps standard security logs, which include IP addresses, for a limited period.
How we use it, and our legal basis
- To introduce you to an FCA-regulated mortgage adviser and to respond to your enquiry. We do this because you ask us to, and with your consent when you submit the form.
- To understand how the site is used and to improve it, and to keep it secure. We do this because it is in our legitimate interests, except for Google Analytics, which we use only with your consent.
Who we share it with
- The mortgage advisers and advice firms we introduce you to, so they can contact you about your enquiry.
- Service providers who help us run the site: our hosting provider (DigitalOcean), our email delivery provider (Resend) and, if you accept analytics cookies, Google (Google Analytics).
- Google. Our site shows Google reviews. We get the reviews from Google, and your browser loads reviewers' profile photos from Google's servers, so Google's own privacy policy applies to that part of the page.
We do not sell your personal information.
How long we keep it
Anonymous visit statistics are kept for 14 months and then deleted. We keep enquiry details for as long as we need them to make your introduction and deal with any follow-up, and for as long as the law requires.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, ask us to restrict how we use it, object to our use of it, and ask for a copy of it in a portable format. Where we rely on your consent you can withdraw it at any time. To use any of these rights, email info@mortgageadviceuk.com.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
